Too old to learn? Never! After I’ve worked a lot of years in IT and communications, I realised that making art is my passion. Because I want to make better art, I started art school (Kunstacademie Friesland) last september. I enjoy that so much.
An evening playing with mixed media resulted in these two works of art.
It was rather difficult to make a good photo of this painting, because it’s shining all over due to the oil glaze. This photo reflects the painting the best, although I like the painting better.

For almost a year I doubted whether this portrait of Dutch comedian and television host Paul de Leeuw was “finished”. Because tomorrow I drew this portrait exactly one year ago, I today decided: It’s done!
Looking out on the Van Harenskerk last saturday I had a booth on the Rembrandtmarket in St. Annaparochie. What a great market it was! I will definitely join in next year. There even was a visitor who enjoyed herself so much watching my art and me making art that she stayed for over an hour. How cool is that?
Inbetween I’ve been doodeling a bit, although there was not much time to draw. For those who saw me draw, this is the end result! Small but nice.
Only available in The Netherlands, Friesland.

After Australia, one of my paintings moved to… Belgium! Mrs and mr De Kunst bought the painting when I stayed in The Blokhuispoort for two weeks. Mrs De Kunst liked the painting for her study on a blue wall.
This is one of my favorite paintings. It’s always a bit sad to say goodbye to a painting you worked on for several hours. But hey, that’s part of the deal being an artist, isn’t it? 😉

A couple of days ago I received an e-mail with a picture of the painting on the wall in her study. Mrs De Kunst wrote: “Your art piece in the middle of my idols for life”. How beautiful and an honor is that?

Well, I just felt in the mood, being ‘locked up’ in a cel in the former jail Blokhuispoort in Leeuwarden: drawing Christmas trees. So I have time to scan and print them on cards and sell them on markets. A sneak preview…
Well! My cell in the Blokhuispoort, the former jail in Leeuwarden has been decorated. For the next two weeks you can find me there, at least from wednesday until saturday. Saturday the 23rd of july will be my last day.
Not only you can buy some paintings and art cards from me, but I also offer a mini workshop Zentangle. In about 15 minutes I teach you the basic principles of zentangling. Some call it the next coloring for grown ups.
I’m in the cell because of a special project ‘Artists in a jail cell’, a project of ‘Leeuwarden 2018’. Leeuwarden is the cultural capital of Europe in 2018. For me a good opportunity to find out if I like working in a studio instead of at home. Are you stopping by to say hello?
Yes, finished! My latest painting ‘Fryslân’. In a couple of weeks this painting will move to… Australia! The theme is ‘Fryslân’, can you detect all the Frisian elements? Scroll down to find out which 17 theme’s I painted.
It took me 47 hours to design and paint this painting. I’m very happy with the result!
In the painting you can find: a Frisian cow (although a farmer told me it’s a ‘Groninger blaarkop’, damn), a Frisian flag, the statue ‘De stenen man’ (man of stone) in Harlingen, balloon flights in Joure, kaatsen and fierljeppen (both Frisian sports), the sword of Big Pier, the waterport in Sneek, the lady of Stavoren, a Frisian horse, egg searching, statue of Rembrandt van Rijn and Saskia van Uylenburgh (they wed in Sint Annaparochie) and the Wadden.
